Former India spinner Sunil Joshi will reportedly serve as the head coach of the India A cricket team in the upcoming Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025. He will be joined by Apurva Desai as the team’s batting coach and Pallav Vohra as the fielding coach.
Earlier on November 4, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also unveiled the entire 15-player India A squad for the upcoming tournament. While Jitesh Sharma will lead a star-studded team, teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi also received a call-up following his explosive run across all formats.
Sunil Joshi to begin his BCCI coaching stint
Last month, former India cricketer Sunil Joshi was roped in by the BCCI to become the new bowling coach at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Joshi’s new gig prompted him to leave his Punjab Kings role as the spin bowling coach of the franchise.
Shortly after joining the BCCI CoE, Sunil Joshi is now tipped to coach the India A team in the Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025 in Qatar later this month, as reported by PTI journalist Kushan Sarkar. The report also indicated that former cricketers Apurva Desai and Pallav Vohra will serve as batting and fielding coaches for the India A team in the tournament.
As far as the playing ensemble is concerned, the India A team is glittered with a slew of star performers and domestic talents. IPL sensation and teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi was selected in the team, and he will be playing under the leadership of Indian cricketer and blistering wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma. In another interesting development, Naman Dhir was appointed as Jitesh’s deputy.
Punjab Kings cricketers like Priyansh Arya and Nehal Wadhera, Delhi Capitals’ explosive middle-order batter Ashutosh Sharma, fast bowler Yash Thakur, among others, were all named in the India A squad mere 10 days prior to the launch of the 2025 Rising Stars Asia Cup.
