In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a two-match ban on Pakistan's premier fast bowler Haris Rauf for breaching its code of conduct during the Asia Cup matches against India. On Tuesday evening, the ICC revealed that Rauf has been suspended for two international matches, also clarifying the sanctions on Suryakumar Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and Sahibzada Farhan for their actions during India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 encounters.

ICC releases official statement confirming two-match ban on Haris Rauf

Pakistan's ace pacer Haris Rauf mocked India with war-inspired gestures that justified Pakistan's unverified claims of downing several Indian jets during the recent war between the neighbouring countries. Rauf's controversial act in the first India-Pakistan clash prompted the ICC match referee to impose a 30% fine and two demerit points on him.

However, the aggressive fast bowler recreated the incident again in the final. The match referee once again sanctioned him with 30 per cent of his match fees, while also adding two more demerit points to his tally for violating Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Thus, Rauf had four demerit points within 24 months, resulting in a two-match ban.

Initially, it was assumed that Rauf had been dropped by Pakistan for the first ODI against South Africa. However, the ICC's official statement has cleared the confusion, and the right-arm pacer will also sit out from the second ODI of the series on November 6.

Arshdeep found not guilty; SKY, Bumrah, Farhan also handed demerit points

The ICC also slapped Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan with a demerit point for performing the bazooka celebration following his fifty against India in the Asia Cup. Despite his questionable gestures towards a chirpy Pakistani crowd, Arshdeep Singh escaped the ICC sanctions, with the apex body acquitting him of all charges.

On the contrary, Suryakumar Yadav was handed a 30 per cent penalty of his match fees, alongside two demerit points, for breaching article 2.21 of the code of conduct. On a similar note, Jasprit Bumrah also received one demerit point for his controversial send-off to Rauf after cleaning him up in the Asia Cup final.
