The Indian Premier League will follow the International Cricket Council's Code of Conduct regulation for participating players during the upcoming season which will start on March 21 while the Women's Premier League will be played across four cities, the governing council decided on Sunday.
While BCCI vice-president and former IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla had told media persons that the cash-rich league will commence from March 23, a senior GC member clarified that it will start either on March 20 or 21. It's learnt that the decision to follow the ICC Code of Conduct was taken during Sunday's meeting.
"From now on, ICC's sanctioned penalties will be imposed for Level 1, 2 or 3 offences. Till date, IPL had its own Code of Conduct but going forward, Playing Conditions will be followed as per ICC T20I regulations," an IPL GC member told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Harshit Rana Flying Kiss Incident in IPL
In the previous season, a total of 10 Code of Conduct violations were recorded. The first occurred in the third match, when Kolkata Knight Riders' Harshit Rana received a fine for giving a flying kiss to Sunrisers Hyderabad's Mayank Agarwal after dismissing him. Harshit was found guilty of breaching two Level 1 offenses, resulting in a 60% fine on his match fees.
Several other players, including Tim David, Kieron Pollard, Virat Kohli, Sam Curran, Ishan Kishan, and others, were also charged with Level 1 offenses. Harshit faced another violation for his over-the-top celebration against Delhi Capitals, leading to a 100% fine and suspension for the next match. Despite the controversy, he ended as the highest uncapped wicket-taker and KKR won the title.
Nevertheless, with the implementation of the new rule such offences would be restricted to a minimum to none.
