Salman Khan Announces Shreyas Iyer As Captain Of Punjab Kings For IPL 2025

Shreyas Iyer was bought for 26.75 Crore by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 mega auction and as he led Kolkata Knight Riders to a title win in 2024, it was expected that he will lead PBKS in the upcoming edition. It has now been made official as Bollywood Superstar, Salman Khan has announced Shreyas as the captain of Punjab Kings for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League during a special episode of Big Boss 18.

The right-handed batter has a rich experience of leading Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the past. He took Capitals to the final of the 2020 edition while his biggest moment in the sun came in the 2024 season when he took the franchise to their third IPL title. As a batter, Shreyas Iyer has 3127 runs in 116 matches with an average of 32.23 and a strike-rate of 127.47. and would be key figure in the middle order for Punjab Kings.

Shreyas Iyer's appointment as captain means that it would be a reunion of Shreyas and Ricky Ponting as captain-coach and together they would be hoping to revive the fortunes of Punjab Kings like they did for Delhi Capitals from 2018. In the video released by the official X handle of Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer seems confident of team's chance in the upcoming season and expressed his gratitude to the management for showing trust in his abilities.

Punjab Kings finished 9th in the 2024 season and have qualified for the playoffs only once in the IPL history. They came with the biggest purse in the auction and have managed to put together a quality side, and the owners would be hoping that Shreyas-Ponting duo ends the trophy drought of the franchise in IPL 2025.
