Stiff Back Ho Gayi Ya BCCI Ne Karwadi? Netizens Troll Shreyas Iyer

Concerns over injuries are escalating within the Indian camp during the ongoing five-Test series against England, with Indian batter Shreyas Iyer possibly being sidelined for the remainder of the series.

Iyer reported stiffness in his back and groin pain while playing forward defense, casting doubt on his continued participation in the crucial series. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to make an official statement, it is highly probable that Iyer will miss the rest of the series against England.

This setback is another blow for Iyer, who has been plagued by back troubles over the past 12 months. Although he missed the start of last year's home Test series against Australia, his chronic condition resurfaced during the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, prompting consideration of surgery. Following a lengthy rehabilitation process, he returned to cricket in August ahead of the Asia Cup.

Last year, the 29-year-old right-hand batter underwent surgery for a major back injury, causing him to miss several months of cricketing action.

Originally scheduled for Thursday, the selectors' meeting is now expected to take place today, with a formal announcement of the squad anticipated thereafter.

Iyer's Test career has been marked by setbacks, particularly on international tours where his technique against short-pitched deliveries has been criticized. Despite displaying potential in other formats, he has struggled to adapt to the demands of Test cricket, especially against short-pitched deliveries.

Even at home, his recent performances against England in the two Test matches have been disappointing, with no significant contributions with the bat. This lack of success raises concerns about his ability to address technical shortcomings and maintain consistency at the highest level of the game.

In his last four Tests, Iyer has scored 31, 6, 0, 4*, 35, 13, 27, and 29, but has struggled to convert these starts into a big score, adding to the frustration of fans and the player alike.

After Shreyas Iyer's reported injury, fans troll him

With England winning the first match by 28 runs and India responding with a 106-run victory in the second outing, the series is finely poised at 1-1. The third match is set to begin on February 15.

While KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are expected to return for the third Test in Rajkot, Iyer’s absence would mean that the Indian team will need a replacement in the middle order.

News of Iyer's potential sidelining for the remainder of the series prompted a flurry of reactions on Twitter, ranging from disappointment to humorous takes on the situation.
