In the latest development, Aussie star, Steve Smith is likely to bat at number 4, his preferred position in the Border-Gavaskar Tests Vs India. This comes after a poor couple of outings at the top of the order.

Smith eager to bat at number 4 Vs IND

As per reports, Smith is eager to switch back to his favourite number 4 spot, where he has made truckloads of runs, and became arguably the greatest Test batter of this generation. After the retirement of David Warner last year, Smith was promoted at the top of the order to play alongside, Usman Khawaja.

However, his runs have dried up at the top, and he has failed to play any significant knock. In 4 matches, he could only accumulated 171 runs, at an average of 28.50, with the highest score of 91* against the West Indies.

At the number 4 spot, Smith shines like no one else. The former Aussie skipper has batted at the 4th spot in 67 matches, in which he has mustered 5966 runs, at a staggering average of 61.50, including 19 hundreds.

If Smith indeed switches his batting position again, then there is a likelihood that Mitch Marsh will be given the opening slot.

The Border-Gavaskar series begins from November 22, and it will be a part of the WTC cycle.
