Host broadcaster of the ICC World Cup 2023, Star Sports revealed an exciting edit for India legend Virat Kohli as he approaches two major milestones in his illustrious career in the next league stage clash with Sri Lanka in Mumbai on Thursday (November 2).

Kohli, who recorded his 48th One-Day International century earlier in the marquee tournament against Bangladesh, has the chance to script his 49th hundred in the traditional format and stand equal in centuries tally with his inspiration and 'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar.

If he reaches the prestigious landmark at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Kohli will be raising his willow for another great achievement: his 11th One-Day hundred against his favourite opposition Sri Lanka.

Life and cricket have brought Kohli to this point as he gears up for the two huge achievements against the very opposition he began his international journey back in 2008 when injuries to Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar earned him a chance to make a debut versus the Lankan Lions at their prime.

Only months after emerging as the stand-out young talent at the U-19 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Kohli got the nod to make his international debut. The youngster was initially dropped when the big-name incumbents returned but he forced his way back in time for his first international hundred, which came against Sri Lanka.

Kohli made 107 versus the Lankan Lions in Kolkata during a memorable run-chase to guide India through with veteran opener Gautam Gambhir, who was kind enough to share his 'Player of the Match' trophy with his younger teammate.

The next century against Sri Lanka also came in a run-chase etched in cricket lovers' memories and hearts when Kohli smashed an excellent 133 not out in Hobart to help India earn a bonus point win at the fag end of the CB series triangular in 2011-12 in Australia.

Kohli backed it up with another superlative ton in the following Asia Cup 2012 in Bangladesh. His 108 in a winning cause was overshadowed by the legend's magnum onus knock of 183 in a couple of days' time against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.

Since then, Kohli has made seven other ODI centuries against the Sri Lankans. Notably, the 34-year-old has recorded his most number of hundreds versus this opposition, with the next best - eight centuries - coming against historic rivals Australia.
