Former England captain Eoin Morgan has cleared the air about him being linked to England’s coaching role and claimed that he is comfortable with what he is doing currently. The 2019 World Champions are in the middle of a horrible World Cup 2023 campaign in India.
The Jos Buttler-led side have lost five of the six games they played in the tournament so far and are on the verge of early elimination from the competition. As a result, they are currently sitting at the bottom of the points table and are on the verge of early elimination in the tournament.
The three lions have won only one game in the tournament against Bangladesh in Dharamshala and faced defeats with heavy margins against the likes of India, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
'It's a bit far fetched...' - Eoin Morgan on possible England coaching role
England have been far away from being at their best in this World Cup and that has left many questioning Matthew Mott’s future as England’s white ball coach. The 2019 World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan name is cropping up to replace Mott as England’s white ball coach in the near future.
Morgan, who announced his retirement from International cricket in July last year, is currently working as an expert for English channel Sky Sports. Speaking on Sky Sports, the 37-year-old reacted to the rumors of him linking with England’s coaching role.
"I am very happy and cemented, hopefully, in what I am going to do in the future. I spend a lot of time at home now with my young family, which is great, and I love watching it," Eoin Morgan said.
According to Morgan, Mott is up against the toughest test in his coaching career so far. He claimed that the think tank should be given time to get things right. There is a T20 World Cup coming up in the US next year and there is no reason England should continue without Mott.
"Matthew Mott is going through the biggest challenge of his England coaching career at the moment and it is one that he should be given time to put right," Morgan added.
Notably, things can go from bad to worse for England if they fail to qualify for Champions Trophy 2025 which qualification is at stake in the ongoing World Cup. England have three more games to go in the league stage with the next game against Australia in Ahmedabad on Saturday, November 4th.
