'Exude Similar Aura' - Legendary Aussie Compares Rohit Sharma's India To Ponting's Invincibles

Shane Watson compared India's mighty juggernaut at the ICC World Cup 2023 with the invincible Australian side that enjoyed a winning run at the 2003 and 2007 editions of the marquee tournament and lifted the coveted title without breaking a sweat.

As Men in Blue peak collectively in what has been an excellent six-match winning streak, the former Aussie all-rounder said he is reminded of Ricky Ponting and company in their absolute pomp, surpassing oppositions with ease and flexing their unmatched muscle and strength at the highest level.

Speaking in an interview with 'Times of India', Watson said Rohit Sharma's men "exude the same aura" as Ponting's mighty Aussies did to clinch two successive World Cups and that their moment to regain the ultimate crown may not be far away.

India have emboldened their tournament contenders tag by hammering their opponents in the ongoing edition of the World Cup, dominating Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand and England to stand just a win away from becoming the first team to cement their knock-out spot.

"They exude a similar aura," Watson said in the interview. "This team has absolutely no weakness, as was the case with the invincible Australian teams of the 2003 and 2007 World Cups. Just like that Aussie side, this team has quality world-class match-winners all around the team."

"Once I saw the balance of the Indian team and the form of the players after two games, this thought occurred on me. They have just been so incredibly dominant and have a great chance of going through the tournament undefeated. A team has to be at their brilliant best to challenge this Indian side," he added.

After missing out on triumph at successive ICC events in recent history, Team India look intent to rewrite the history books and bag their third World Cup title after 1983 and 2011. Rohit's men next take on the inexperienced Sri Lankans in Mumbai on Thursday (November 2) with the intention to beat another opposition and take a giant stride towards the semifinals.
