After Glenn Maxwell's unfortunate freak injury, Australia have suffered another massive setback as ace all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has flown back to his home in Perth, citing personal reasons.

As a result, the swashbuckling top-order batter won't be available for Australia's upcoming World Cup clash against England in Ahmedabad.

In its official statement, Cricket Australia confirmed Marsh's departure and clarified that a timeline on his return would be confirmed soon.

"Australian allrounder Mitchell Marsh has returned home from the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 late last night for personal reasons. A timeline on his return to the squad is to be confirmed. No further detail will be offered at this time," the statement read.

After two poor outings, Marsh got his mojo back in the Sri Lanka game, guiding Australia to victory through a scintillating fifty. His form skyrocketed in the very next match against Pakistan where he clobbered a magnificent century to script a clinical win for his side.

Overall, the batter has 225 runs to his name in this World Cup at a decent average of 37.50 and an impressive strike rate of 91.46. In his absence, Australia might rope in Cameron Green and use him as a floater in their batting line-up.
