In a startling development, Sri Lanka spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been banned from all forms of cricket for one year, with six months suspended, after admitting to breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. This comes as a huge setback for Sri Lanka cricket, as Jayawickrama was a promising youngster with a bright future ahead.

Praveen Jayawickrama, 25 year old spinner, made his international debut for Sri Lanka in 2021. He's played five Tests, five ODIs and as many T20Is for his country till now and grabbed 32 wickets.

Praveen Jayawickrama Guilty Of Breaching ICC Corruption Rules

However, the 25-year-old got himself embroiled in a huge controversy earlier this year. Praveen Jayawickrama reportedly failed to report being approached for match-fixing in international cricket and the Lanka Premier League.

His actions delayed ICC's investigation and obstructed justice, which is a clear violation of the apex body's Anti-Corruption code.

Jayawickrama has been booked under Article 2.4.7 of the Code, which includes actions such as concealing, tampering with, or destroying documents or information that may be relevant to an investigation into corrupt conduct.

As a result, Praveen Jayawickrama has been handed a one-year ban from all forms of cricket as a repercussion.

However, six months of the ban has been suspended after the spinner confessed to the charges. This means that if he complies with the conditions set by the ICC, he may be allowed to return to cricket after six months.

Sri Lanka Scripts History With Test Series Sweep Vs New Zealand

The Sri Lankan cricket team delivered a stunning performance in their Test series against New Zealand, achieving a 2-0 clean sweep at home. In the second Test at Galle, Sri Lanka dominated the visitors, winning by an innings and 154 runs, marking a significant milestone in their cricket history.

This victory is Sri Lanka's first Test series triumph over New Zealand in 15 years, with their last win dating back to 2009. Over the years, Sri Lanka faced steep challenges against New Zealand, losing the three-away series. Hence, this win serves as a redemption for Sri Lanka, ending a 15-year drought against the Blackcaps in Test cricket.
