Sri Lanka are scheduled to participate in the tri-series in Pakistan in November. However, with just more than 10 days remaining for the series, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board has sent a reconnaissance team to Pakistan.

It is not a regular practice on the international tours, but with Afghanistan backing out, the Sri Lankan board is probably trying to be completely assured of the security arrangements. The reconnaissance team is meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials and getting briefed on travel and security arrangements for the Sri Lankan team according to a report from PTI.

The team will also visit all the three venues of the tri-series - Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad. There will also be a conversation with the organisers and police officials, and thus the Sri Lankan board is leaving no stone unturned before finalising the arrival of their team.

Sri Lanka's history of security trouble and help to Pakistan

Interestingly, Sri Lanka was one of the initial teams to travel to Pakistan to resume international cricket in the country. There was no international cricket in Pakistan for a long time after the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked during their Test match in 2009.

The Lankan team has travelled many times to Pakistan since the resumption of international cricket in the country. Thus, this move to send a reconnaissance team ahead of this tri-series has raised eyebrows. It could be a result of the war-like situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan and continuous cross-border as well as internal tensions in Pakistan.

The tri-series will start on November 17 in Rawalpindi with the game between Pakistan and Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka will play their first match on November 19, while the final will be played on 29 in Lahore. The series will be played in the T20 format and will act as a good preparation for the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next year.
