Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious injury during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Ground on October 25. The 30-year-old sustained a laceration to the spleen after diving to take a catch to dismiss Alex Carey. He was seen in severe pain on the field and was later taken to the hospital, where he was also admitted to intensive care (ICU).

Santosh Iyer updates on son Shreyas Iyer’s health

While initial reports suggested that Shreyas Iyer’s parents would fly to Sydney to be with their son in this difficult time, his father, Santosh Iyer, has now clarified that the family has decided to stay back in India.

“The BCCI is monitoring his injury and he is on a recovery path. The best doctor in Sydney is treating him. He is likely to get discharged by weekend and perhaps may get even before that. Since he is not a part of the T20I squad, he will return soon. Contrary to earlier reports, we are not going to Sydney.” Santosh Iyer told while speaking to Deccan Chronicle.

Iyer's father also mentioned that, as a star cricketer is not the part of the T20I series, the current focus is entirely on his recovery, with BCCI closely monitoring his day-to-day progress. He also stated that Shreyas is under the guidance of a top-class medical team and doctor, and the family is hopeful that the Punjab Kings captain will return to India soon, possibly by the weekend.

He also stated that even though they are not travelling to Australia, Iyer’s family is receiving regular updates on his condition. His father expressed confidence in the treatment and emphasised that Shreyas’ situation is stable and improving steadily.

Shreyas Iyer shifted out of ICU, under observation

Shreyas Iyer has reportedly been shifted out of the ICU, but his condition still requires careful monitoring due to the severity of his internal injury. The BCCI’s medical team is in constant coordination with specialists in Sydney to ensure his recovery.
