In an interesting decision from the Sri Lankan cricket board, six uncapped players have been selected in the 18-member squad for a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. It is the first series for the Lankans in the new WTC cycle, and despite the presence of six uncapped players, the selectors have retained the core of senior players.

The experienced star and former captain, Angelo Mathews, has also been included in the squad, and he is set to retire after the opening Test. Along with Mathews, the squad consists of senior players like Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis, while the pacer Lahiru Kumara has been withdrawn at the last moment due to an injury in the practice session.

The selectors have also made a bold call by including six uncapped players in the squad: Lahiru Udara, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Sonal Dinusha, Pawan Ratnayake, Tharindu Ratnayake and Isitha Wijesundara.

Sri Lanka Keep Batting Core Intact Despite Bold Changes

The selectors, despite many changes, have managed to keep the batting core intact. Pathum Nissanka will be at the top of the order, while Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Angelo Matthews and Dhananjaya de Silva are likely to take care of the middle order.

Asitha Fernando and Kasun Rajitha will have to take responsibility in the pace department in the absence of Lahiru Kumara and Vishwa Fernando. Prabath Jayasuriya will lead the spin department while Akila Dananjaya will accompany him.

The first Test match will start on June 17 at the Galle International Stadium while the second match will be played at SSC in Colombo.
