Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has dedicated the upcoming home T20I series against Pakistan to the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative, aiming to contribute to the nation's recovery efforts following the widespread damage caused by the recent Ditwah Cyclone.

The decision was approved by the SLC Executive Committee led by president Shammi Silva as the three-match T20I series will be played on January 7, 9 and 11, and will be used to support government-led relief and rehabilitation programmes.

According to local media reports, SLC will take several measures during the series to promote the rebuilding initiative of the nation. Awareness messages will be displayed across match venues, encouraging fans and viewers to support Sri Lanka’s recovery journey.

Alongside rebuilding efforts, SLC will also promote the #VisitSriLanka campaign during the series. The initiative aims to highlight Sri Lanka as a global tourist destination and help revive tourism, one of the sectors which suffered the most by the recent calamity.

In a significant move, Sri Lanka cricket has also announced that profits from the home T20I series against Pakistan will be donated to the government’s Rebuilding Sri Lanka programme, reinforcing cricket’s role in supporting national causes.

Sri Lanka-Pakistan series serves as a key preparation for T20 World Cup 2026

The three-match series will also serve as crucial preparation for both teams ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, starting from February 7 till March 8.

Pakistan, placed in Group A, will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on February 7, while co-host Sri Lanka, in Group B, will open their tournament against Ireland on February 8.

The two sides last met in the shortest format during a tri-nation series in Pakistan in November, which also featured Zimbabwe, where the host Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the final to lift the title.
