In the latest development, South Africa have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final, which is set to take place on June 11 at the Lord's Stadium. As expected, Temba Bavuma, the maverick leader will captain the team as the Proteas men aim to win the WTC title for the first time.
Bavuma to lead, key stars get a nod in squad
Also, several key IPL players, including Ryan Rickelton, Kagiso Rabada and Tristan Stubbs have been included in the team to face the Australian side.
Cricket South Africa announced the squad with a special video on their social media handle, X, and the team looks well balanced considering they will play against a tricky Australian side.
6 pacers in Proteas team
With the match being played at Lord's a venue helpful for the fast bowlers, the Proteas selectors have included 6 pacers in the team - Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder, Dane Paterson and Corbin Bosch.
Over the last few years, the Aussie batters have struggled with quality pace and the South African seamers can trouble them on a spicy Lord's wicket.
Batting looks weak on paper
Most of the players added in the team were playing in the Indian Premier League, a few days ago and they look weak on paper as compared to the Aussies. Bavuma has been in decent touch, but the likes of Rickelton, Stubbs and David Bedingham are inexperienced Test players and this could come back to haunt the Proteas.
While Australia will aim to defend their title which they won after defeating India in 2023, the South African side will aim to win their first major title since the 1998 Knockout Trophy.
