As the cricket world is enjoying some interesting series, the South African cricket team came across a significant change. South Africa’s white ball coach, Rob Walter, has resigned from his post.

Cricket South Africa confirmed on Tuesday that the coach will end his tenure on April 30. Under his leadership, the Proteas reached new heights in white-ball cricket. As his tenure comes to an end, South Africa is preparing to bid an emotional farewell to Walter.

Rob Walter Steps Down

On April 1, Cricket South Africa came with an announcement as South Africa’s white-ball coach, Rob Walter has decided to step down from his current role citing personal reasons. His resignation will take effect at the end of the month, leaving fans stunned by the unexpected move.

Replacing Mark Boucher in 2023, he signed a four-year contract with the side. Walter decided to step down from the role within just two years. Under his guidance, the South African side touched new heights in white-ball cricket. After playing the semifinal in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, the team featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup final.

Under Walter’s guidance, the Proteas played 36 ODIs and 31 T20I matches. In the recently concluded Champions Trophy 2025, he guided the team to the semifinals, but their journey ended with a tough loss to New Zealand.

“Coaching the Proteas has been an incredible honour, and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together. The players, support staff, and the South African cricketing community have been fantastic throughout this journey. While it’s time for me to step away, I have no doubt that the team will continue to grow and reach even greater heights.” Walter said.

As Rob Walter is bidding adieu to South African cricket, a glorious chapter is ending here. With that, Cricket South Africa is set to hunt for a new coach to carry on the legacy.
