In what is coming as a crucial news, former BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) President Sourav Ganguly is all set to apply for the position of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president. It is worth noting that Sourav's brother, Snehasish Ganguly, is the current CAB president, whose tenure is about to expire.
Ganguly Set To Be Elected Unopposed
After a three-year tenure with the BCCI as president of the apex body, former Indian cricketer and captain, Sourav Ganguly, is all set to apply for the position of president at the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in the upcoming elections. Ganguly himself has confirmed the news to the media outlet, India Today.
Sourav's brother, Snehasish Ganguly, is the current CAB president, a position he has held for the last few years, but would be ineligible to apply for this position again due to the Lodha Committee's cap on the tenure of office bearers in cricketing bodies.
Also, to mention the fact that there are high chances that if Ganguly enters the race, which is quite likely now, he is expected to emerge victorious without much opposition, as many would want him to be the CAB president after holding that role from 2015 to 2019.
The CAB has finalised the dates of the meeting, where the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for September 25, 2025, whereas the apex council election meeting will be scheduled in a few days, on August 14. An emergent apex council meeting happened on Tuesday to prepare for the upcoming elections.
Sourav Ganguly's Tenures With CAB, BCCI
To the unversed, Ganguly has been the torchbearer of Indian cricket for a while, until 2022, and when his tenure ended, the current BCCI President, Roger Binny, succeeded him.
Interestingly, Ganguly succeeded former president Jagmohan Dalmiya in 2015 in the CAB following his four-year tenure, as he then moved on to the BCCI, where he had another three-year tenure with the Indian apex cricketing body.
Ganguly's role at the top had many positives for Indian cricket, as he brought some reinforcements and oversaw the development of the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
