When two former teammates meet after a long time, excitement is bound to follow! Ahead of the much-anticipated IPL 2025 opener, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Venkatesh Iyer and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Phil Salt were seen sharing some lighthearted banter during a practice session in Kolkata.
Phil Salt Becomes A Part Of RCB
Salt, who was previously with KKR, was bought by RCB for a whopping ₹11.50 crore after an intense bidding war with his former team. Now, as RCB prepares to take on KKR in the opening match at Eden Gardens on March 22, the reunion of these two players has caught fans’ attention.
Phil Salt has had a solid IPL career so far. He has scored 653 runs in 21 matches, averaging 34.36 with an impressive strike rate of 173.53. Last season, his opening partnerships with Sunil Narine played a crucial role in KKR’s title-winning run. Now, he will be hoping to create similar magic for RCB and give them a strong start at the top.
KKR, the defending champions, have retained six key players from their 2024 squad, including Rinku Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell. They have also kept pacer Harshit Rana and all-rounder Ramandeep Singh, both of whom are uncapped but are seen as promising talents. With a strong core team, KKR will be aiming to defend their title and start their campaign with a win.
Ajinkya Rahane To Lead KKR In IPL 2025
KKR will also see a leadership change this season, with veteran Ajinkya Rahane taking over as captain after Shreyas Iyer’s exit. However, they will be without star pacer Mitchell Starc, who played a crucial role in their title-winning campaign last year. Despite that, KKR remains a strong contender with a balanced squad.
