Indian batter, Smriti Mandhana has been on fire. The Indian batting star is just four points shy of dethroning Australia’s Beth Mooney as the No. 1 batter in the ICC Women’s T20I Batting Rankings.
Smriti Mandhana Nears Beth Mooney For Top Spot In ICC Women’s T20I Batting Rankings
With 753 rating points, Smriti Mandhana is breathing down Mooney’s (757) neck, and at this rate, it’s only a matter of time before she takes the crown. It is worth mentioning that she is already No. 2 in ICC Women's ODI Batting Rankings.
Mandhana’s latest heroics came in the third T20I against West Indies, where she smashed a breathtaking 77 off just 43 balls. Leading the team in Harmanpreet Kaur’s absence, Mandhana showed why she’s one of the best in the business.
She notched up her third consecutive half-century in the series, helping India post a mammoth 217 on the board. The stand-in skipper wasted no time, smashing boundaries for fun.
Mandhana’s Dream Run & Record Breaking Spree
In one sensational sequence, she hit seven boundaries in a row off Chinelle Henry and Deandra Dottin. Mandhana brought up her fifty in just 27 balls, breaking Suzie Bates’ long-standing world record for the most 50+ scores in Women’s T20Is.
Mandhana now holds the record for the most 50+ scores in Women’s T20Is, with 30 to her name. She’s also smashed the record for the most runs scored in a single calendar year in Women’s T20Is, overtaking Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu.
This year has been nothing short of a dream for Mandhana. She’s one of only four women cricketers to score over 700 T20I runs in a single year, a feat that puts her in elite company.
Mandhana’s brilliance isn’t limited to T20Is. In ODIs, she’s been equally dominant, scoring four centuries this year—the most by any women’s cricketer in 2024. She’s piled up 599 runs in just 10 ODIs at an average of 59.90. And let’s not forget her Test century against South Africa earlier this year.
