SMAT 2022: Punjab announces 15-member squad for the tournament

The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) on Tuesday (October 4), announced its 15-member squad for the forthcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).

Veteran batter Mandeep Singh is likely to lead the team although the board is yet to officially announce the captain of the side for the inter-state tournament. 

The squad includes some household names like Abhishek Sharma, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Siddharth Kaul, Harpreet Singh Brar, Mayank Markande, Ramandeep Singh, and Prabhsimran Singh.

The other two IPL capped players- Manan Vohra and Sandeep Sharma are among prominent names to not find a place in the squad.

Shubhman Gill and Arshdeep Singh were not available for selection due to their involvement with the national team.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 is all set to begin on October 11 and a total of 38 teams will be taking part in the tournament.

Last year, Punjab failed to qualify for the quarterfinals after finishing third in Elite Group A.

Placed in Elite Group B, Punjab will play its first match against Hyderabad on October 11 at Jaipur. Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Goa, Manipur, and Delhi are placed alongside Punjab in Group B.
