T20 World Cup 2022: Rassie van der Dussen backs Proteas to do well on Australian pitches

Rassie van der Dussen believes the conditions in Australia at T20 World Cup 2022 will be more suited for South Africa, as opposed to the team currently facing in India.

Dussen was the second-highest run-scorer for the Proteas in the T20I series against India with 97 runs in four innings earlier this year. However, the finger injury ruled him out of the ongoing series against the Men in Blue and T20 World Cup as well.

Still recovering from the injury, Dussen thinks Australian wickets will offer an optimum bounce, similar to South Africa's surfaces and eventually make the task easier for the team. His comments came after Proteas lost the T20I series against India, on the back of ordinary bowling and top-order failure.

“In Australia, there will be a lot more bouncy wickets. There are also bigger outfields. Teams bowl more back-of-length there, and not as full, because they want batters to hit to the square boundaries."

Furthermore, 33-year-old also opined on the form of skipper Temba Bavuma, who has registered successive ducks in the first two games of the series against India.

Dussen reckoned that the bowlers have adapted well to the shortest format and trying to take wickets in the powerplay overs to put the opposition on the backfoot, which has kept the batters like Bavuma and Jason Roy quiet in the last few years.

In this regard, he gave an example of David Miller, who slammed an unbeaten 47-ball 106, after setting his eyes on the pitch in the second T20I on Sunday.
