Harry Brook’s stellar show in Pakistan seems to have earned him a spot in coach Matthew Mott’s good books. The English coach recently praised the youngster by saying he has pretty much sealed a spot for himself in team’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad.

Mott also gave updates about Ben Stokes’ possible batting position for the tournament, since the all-rounder will be making a comeback to England’s T20I setup after a long time.

England’s white-ball coach Matthew Mott recently stated that Ben Stokes will bat as higher as number four for his team in the upcoming T20 event in Australia. The former cricketer echoed captain Jos Buttler’s stance on the all-rounder, who once claimed that Stokes would be wasted down the order.

While Stokes is included in England’s 15-player squad for the T20 World Cup, the tournament itself will mark his first T20I assignment since March 2021. Speaking of the all-rounder’s batting position, the coach said:

“Jos in particular is clear that he (Ben Stokes) is a top-four player. Those conditions in Australia will suit the way he plays. You always have a bit of flexibility with the batting but he will be expected to be higher in the innings.”

Mott also heaped praise for Harry Brook, who drove England to a 4-3 series win in Pakistan this month. The 23-year-old cricketer plundered 238 runs across seven matches and was the highest scorer for his side in the series.

The coach believes that Brook “could not have done any more” to seal a T20 World Cup spot for himself.
