Melbourne Renegades have announced a one-year extension deal with current head coach Simon Helmot, confirming his stay in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) until next season. Helmot was appointed the Renegades coach ahead of WBBL 07 on a two-year deal, which ends after the 2022 edition.

The 50-year-old was earlier coach of the Renegades men's side in the Big Bash League (BBL) in 2011, only to move out after BBL 04.

The Melbourne-born guided the Patriots to their maiden CLP title in 2021

“I really enjoyed my first year coaching this group and am excited to see what we can achieve as a team this summer.

I look forward to building on the foundations we laid last year as a team – both on and off the field – playing an exciting brand of cricket and continuing to push for team success over the next couple of years.”

What did Renegades' GM had to say

"The impact Simon had in his first season as our WBBL Head Coach was fantastic and we’re thrilled to have him now committed to leading our program for the next two seasons.”

Renegades begin play their WBBL 08 tournament opener against Adelaide Strikers on October 16, captained by Sophie Molineux.

She will have the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Shabnim Ismail, Hayley Matthew, and Tayla Vlaeminck for guidance.
