One of India's most in-form and crucial batter, Shubman Gill remains unavailable for India's second ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan as well after reportedly being diagnosed with dengue.

As reported by News 18, the star-opener Gill will travel to Ahmedabad today from Chennai, where the player has been kept under the watchful eyes of BCCI medical staff. Reportedly, the 24-year-old traveled to Chennai for India's tournament opener against Australia being under the weather and soon found himself out of commission given his illness further missing the Delhi clash today.

A close BCCI source confirmed about Gill's travel plans. Gill was also hospitalised for low platelets count on October 10, but was soon discharged and continued his treatment in the hotel.

The source further stated that the batter's recovery is around 70-80 percent, but the medical panel and team management will not rush in bring back the player into action.

“Gill will be travelling to Ahmedabad from Chennai today in a commercial flight. He will continue with recovery and rest there, under the watch of BCCI medical team,”

It seems highly unlikely that Gill would field against Pakistan on October 14 at Narendra Modi Stadium in the much-anticipated encounter between arch-rivals.

Speculations about BCCI drafting either Ruturaj Gaikwad or Yashasvi Jaiswal as back-up for Gill are already doing rounds.

In 20 ODIs this year, Gill has amassed 1,230 runs with five centuries and as many half-centuries.
