As per emerging reports, India will likely add Yashasvi Jaiswal or Ruturaj Gaikwad as the back-up for Shubman Gill to their World Cup 2023 squad. Notably, Gill is recovering from Dengue fever and couldn't participate in India's World Cup opener against Australia in Chennai. He was recently hospitalised in Chennai and didn't travel with the team for the second match against Afghanistan in Delhi.

So, with uncertainty looming over Gill's comeback, India are thinking to add one between Jaiswal and Gaikwad to their World Cup squad. As reported by the Indian Express, the Indian management could make the final call soon.

Gaikwad and Jaiswal were impressive in the Asian Games, where India clinched the Gold medal, defeating Afghanistan in the all-important final. While Jaiswal hammered 100 runs at a blistering strike rate of 188.67, Gaikwad's leadership grabbed the limelight throughout the competition.

Regarding Gill, it has been reported that the stylish batter is 70-80 per cent fit and was discharged from the hospital on Monday evening. However, he is set to miss the next two games, including the high-voltage Indo-Pak clash, and could make his comeback in India's fourth group-stage match against Bangladesh in Pune.
