Riding on the clinical performance from the bowlers, New Zealand are on the verge of a resounding victory in their ongoing World Cup match against the Netherlands. However, besides the Kiwis' dominating performance, an incident that grabbed the limelight was a controversial decision from the TV umpire, who recalled Sybrand Engelbrecht after the on-field umpire declared him out.

The incident occurred in the 41st over when New Zealand turned up to Rachin Ravindra to break the budding stand between Engelbrecht and Ryan Klein. The bowler didn't let his skipper down, as he dismissed the former on the final ball of his over.

It was a wide delivery, with the batter stepping out and being beaten all ends up. New Zealand skipper Tom Latham did the rest, dislodging the bails when the batter was way out of his crease.

However, Engelbrecht was stopped on his way to the dressing room, as the TV umpire checked if Latham collected the ball properly. Despite the replay being inconclusive, the third umpire Joel Wilson was convinced that Latham had taken the ball slightly ahead of the popping crease, eventually recalling the dismissed batter.

Furthermore, it was declared a no ball, with the batting side rewarded with an extra run. The decision from Wilson received backlash from the commentary panel, especially former BlackCaps keeper Ian Smith.

However, the controversial call didn't affect the BlackCaps, as Engelbrecht was dismissed in the next over. As of writing, the Dutch are on the cusp of a shambolic defeat, placed at 218 for nine in 45 overs.
