On the back of Ravichandran Ashwin’s stellar all-round show, Dindigul Dragons outclassed Trichy Grand Cholas by 6 wickets in the Eliminator of TNPL 2025. With this dominant win, they now march into Qualifier 2 to face Chepauk Super Gillies on Friday for a spot in the final.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the Eliminator match, as it panned out at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul on Wednesday, July 2.

Spin Kings Ashwin and Chakravarthy Leave Trichy in Tatters

After being asked to bat first, Trichy Grand Cholas began cautiously, scoring only 37 for the loss of one wicket inside the powerplay. A brief 23-run partnership between Jagatheesan Koushik and Waseem offered some stability before Varun Chakravarthy got the breakthrough and Dindigul never got back any momentum.

Captain Ravichandran Ashwin joined the party and further derailed Trichy's situation. Jafar Jamal, at 7, tried to rebuild the innings, launching a counter attack, scoring a quick fire 33 off 20 balls. Eventually, Trichy posted 140 for 9 after 20 overs with Ashwin finishing as the pick of the bowlers with three wickets.

Ashwin Batting Show Powers Dindigul To an Easy Win

Chasing 141 to get through to TNPL 2025 Qualifier 2, Dindigul got off to a blazing start as Ashwin and Shivam Singh stitched a rapid 50-run stand to set the tone early. Though Shivam departed in the fifth over, Ashwin kept the momentum alive with an aggressive assault, dismantling the bowling attack with ease.

Baba Indrajith, at 3, played the perfect second fiddle while Ashwin continued his relentless attack, denying any comeback chances for Trichy with the ball. Ashwin eventually departed after a spectacular 83 off just 48 balls, leaving Dindigul needing only 11 runs to win. However, K Easwaran scalped two quick wickets at the end but it was too late as Dindigul eventually got across the line with six wickets in hand.
