Shreyas Iyer will participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 from the very beginning, as reported by Revsportz. The 29-year-old, who was absent at Wankhede Stadium in the last two days of the Ranji Trophy 2024 final due to back concerns, will return as KKR’s skipper.
During Mumbai's second-inning batting innings, Shreyas experienced some back pain. There have been plenty of reports that he won’t be able to participate in the early half of the competition. But, it appears that all of the reports are untrue—as Revsportz indicates, there are no serious injuries to be concerned about.
“Shreyas is scheduled to join the KKR camp on Friday. He is unlikely to miss games,” a source was quoted as saying by Revsportz.
So, as things stand, Shreyas will return to action when KKR will play Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 23.
Shreyas did not play a single game in IPL 2023 due to back concerns, and prioritised Asia Cup and World Cup instead. He had significant success, but failed to deliver in red-ball cricket. Then, after two Tests against England, he was dropped due to consistent woes, which led him not to play for Mumbai in the quarterfinals.
The decision took a massive toll, as BCCI did not give a central contract. Shreyas, however, is likely to get that back after playing back-to-back Ranji Trophy matches for Mumbai. He also played a pivotal role in Mumbai’s 42nd title win with a flamboyant 95 in the second innings.
