With the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction on the horizon, franchises are leaving no stone unturned, conducting trials in cities to uncover hidden talents and refine their strategies for player acquisition.
Looking to break their IPL title jinx, the Royal Challengers Bangalore recently organised a trial in which many youngsters from various cities participated. Among them was one of the forgotten stars of the IPL, Shreyas Gopal.

Notably, Royal Challengers Bangalore strategically released Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga before the IPL 2024 auction to increase their financial flexibility. Their priority in the auction will likely be securing a talented local spinner.
During the 2019 IPL season, Shreyas Gopal emerged as the top wicket-taker for Rajasthan Royals. Having a subdued 2020 season with ten wickets in 14 games, he saw a decline in his performance in 2021, remaining wicketless in three matches.
Sunrisers Hyderabad picked the Karnataka spinner at his base price in the 2022 mega auction, but he featured in the playing eleven just once before finding no takers in the 2023 IPL auction.
Following an outstanding Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy stint with Kerala, where he led the charts with 12 wickets in just seven matches and a noteworthy performance in the ongoing tournament, there is a glimmer of hope for him to attract buyers in the IPL 2024 auction.
