Shardul Thakur's Latest Milestone Leaves Bumrah, Shami, Siraj In the Shade

Indian pacer, Shardul Thakur led India to a 2-1 ODI series win over West Indies in what was a remarkable performance that displayed his flourishing skill and reliability as a fast bowler.

Thakur becomes the only bowler with 50 ODI wickets since World Cup 2019

The series decider on Tuesday in Trinidad witnessed India securing a 200-run victory with Thakur's four-wicket haul playing a crucial role.

The right arm quick's ability to dismantle partnerships was key in crushing the West Indian batting line-up. His wicket-taking capability has undergone significant improvement, transforming him into a force to be reckoned with.

With his four-wicket haul, Thakur has become the only Indian pacer to have nagged 50 wickets in ODIs since the ICC World Cup 2019 ended. This milestone stands out, especially considering that he is not the leading pacer in the team and rarely bowls with the new ball.

Surpassing the likes of Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah, Thakur's performance has been an absolute revelation. Thakur is followed by Kuldeep Yadav (46), Siraj (43), and Yuzvendra Chahal (37).

This consistent performance since the last World Cup has strongly positioned the Mumbai-based cricketer as India’s fourth seamer in the anticipated playing XI for the upcoming World Cup 2023 hosted in India.

Coming to the game, the third ODI against West Indies saw India set a challenging target of 351/5, courtesy of brilliant half-centuries from openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, captain Hardik Pandya, and an aggressive contribution from Sanju Samson.

Thakur's incisive bowling, complemented by Mukhesh Kumar's three wickets and contributions from Kuldeep Yadav and Jaydev Unadkat, restricted West Indies to just 151 as India clinched the series 2-1.

The focus now shifts to the upcoming five-match T20I series, starting Thursday, August 5. The first T20I will be played at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad.
