England's The Hundred 2023 got underway on Tuesday, with the Trent Rockets clashing horns against Southern Brave in the Women's competition. India's Smriti Mandhana starred for Brave, powering 55 off 36 which included six fours and two sixes, helping her side score 157 for 6. In reply, the Rockets fell 27 runs short, despite brilliance from Natalie Sciver-Brunt, who scored 49, while Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur failed scoring just 22. 

Mandhana, who had been struggling to find form lately, achieved many firsts for the season. The Indian vice-captain scored the first run, slammed the first four, and also the first six of  The Hundred 2023 Women.

She achieved the distinction of being the first player to both score a fifty and win the player of the match award.

Mandhana's maiden six came off Sciver-Brunt's bowling on the 21st delivery, where the opener tonked the ball between mid-wicket and long-on region.

The 27-year-old played her maiden The Hundred Women season in 2021, scoring 167 for the Brave, whereas had a stellar 2022 edition, amassing 211 runs.
