Pakistan's premier fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has once again been hit by the injury bug and raised concerns about his participation in the upcoming playoff stage of the ongoing Champions One-Day Cup 2024. The left-arm speedster sustained a knee injury during a match between the Lions and Dolphins on Sunday. 

The team physio Cliff Deacon has been closely monitoring Afridi’s recovery. According to team officials, his participation in the Champions Cup playoffs will depend on medical clearance following a doctor's assessment. His fitness is set to be evaluated during today's practice session with the Lions ahead of the crucial first eliminator against the Stallions on Wednesday.

How Did Shaheen Afridi Get Injured In Champions Cup? 

The incident occurred when a sharp delivery from all-rounder Faheem Ashraf struck his left knee and caused him severe pain. The team physio was called to the field, and after an assessment, Afridi was forced to leave the pitch.

His battle with knee injuries has been a persistent theme in his career over the last two years.  In July 2022, Afridi suffered a knee injury during Pakistan's Test series against Sri Lanka, which led to his absence from the Asia Cup that year. Despite his remarkable talent and ability to lead Pakistan’s bowling attack, his physical fitness has been a concern.

His injury came at a time when his form has been under scrutiny. However, it will be interesting to see if Shaheen Afridi is available for tomorrow's game, as it will be a crucial encounter for the Lions.

His injury could also be a massive blow for Pakistan as they will want their star pacer to be fit, as they have some crucial matches ahead in coming weeks.
