Riding on the brilliance of Orla Prendergast, Ireland women prevailed over Scotland in the first fixture of the T20I series at Grange Cricket Club, Edinburgh.

Saskia Horley help Scotland to post a competitive total

Invited to bat first, Scotland got a stable start with openers Sarah Bryce and Ailsa Lister. The wickets of the openers along with Abbi Aitken put the hosts under the pump.

Arriving at number four, the debutant Saskia Horley steered the team at a brisk rate in the middle-overs to contribute a well-compiled 52 off 42, laced with six fours and a six.

In the end, Priyanaz Chatterji hit 15 off 8 to help Scotland end on 133/6. Arlene Kelly emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Ireland with two scalps.

Prendergast leads the way for Ireland

In response to the chase, the experienced campaigner Gaby Lewis (1) fell to Katherine Bryce. Then, the in-form Amy Hunter (16) flexed her arm to hit boundaries, but soon became Bryce's second victim.

However, arriving at number three, Prendergast was sensational to steer the team at a lavish rate and hit her career-best 75* off 45, laced with 11 fours and a single maximum.

She stitched an unbeaten 99-run stand with skipper Laura Delany (36*) to chase down the total with more than three overs to spare.
