Asia Cup 2022, IND vs SL: Dasun Shanka opens up on Virat Kohli's form

Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka thinks the media criticizing Virat Kohli ahead of the Asia Cup 2022 was uncalled-for, despite him contributing well for India.

Lately, Kohli had been under scrutiny due to his inability to convert his starts into big innings. The fans too have been too waiting for the 33-year-old to hit his first international century since his last one in 2019.

However, a fresh Kohli after a proper one-month rest has emerged as the top-scorer for the Men in Blue in the ongoing Asia Cup with 154 runs in three innings.

In this regard, Shanaka thinks they are preparing well to tackle the in-form Kohli when both teams will be against each other on Tuesday in Dubai.

"I think Virat Kohli, we all know how good he is. Although he was criticized in the media, I think he is a very good player and in form. He didn't convert but was still scoring runs, which was the only problem," said Shanaka.

Top-order will be key for Sri Lanka: Dasun Shanka

Shanaka reckons Sri Lanka will have a better chance to prevail against India, if their top-order batters produce a strong performance.

"If we can have good partnerships at the top-order, we will be more in the game."

The first Super-four fixture of the tournament witnessed Sri Lanka securing a four-wicket victory over Afghanistan.

The team's openers Kusal Mendis and Pathun Nissanka stitched a quickfire 62-run stand, which ultimately helped the team to start the Super-four stage on a positive note.
