The long break is about to get over, and on Thursday (February 15), at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, India and England will square off once more in the third Test of their five-match series.

Under the leadership of Ben Stokes, England made a statement by defeating India in their own backyard by 28 runs in the series opener in Hyderabad. Rohit Sharma and Co., however, did not hold back, as the side crunched past the Bazball-inspired unit by 106 runs in Visakhapatnam.

The focus is now in Rajkot, and needless to say, whoever enjoys the last laugh here will get the upper hand before the rivalry reaches the final two encounters.

Let us take a brief look at the results and records at this venue before the red cherry is moved to the centre of the court.

Only two Tests have been played in Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium Rajkot, with the last one being held way back in October 2018. That was against the West Indies, and India, under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, enjoyed an innings-and-272 run victory in the contest.

As you can see, there is not enough data in the sample (in red-ball cricket) to predict how the pitch would perform. There is a strong sense, though, that the surface will be a rank turner, in contrast to what we witnessed in the first two Tests.
