In the latest developments, Sanju Samson to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is almost finalised, and the deal will be completed in the next 48 hours. With Samson leaving, RR will get Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in a trade deal, as one of the most anticipated transfers will finally be closed before the retention deadline day.

As per the IPL rules, the BCCI officially gets involved in the finalization of a trade deal, but as of Monday, neither RR nor CSK has communicated their decision to the officials, but all three players have put pen to paper.

"Consent has been obtained from all three players and the Expression of Interest process has been initiated. All three have signed on the dotted line, but the process will take some time to culminate," a franchise official said. As per the rules, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is required if a traded player happens to be an overseas cricketer. In this case, since one of the three players involved is Sam Curran, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) may need to be part of the process," IPL officials told Cricbuzz, who broke this news.

How the Samson to CSK saga unfolded

It all started during the IPL 2025 season when Samson was out of the team due to an injury, and Riyan Parag was made the captain. When Samson returned, he was demoted to number 3 from the opening spot, and this infuriated the RR skipper.

After the season ended and RR failed to qualify for the playoffs, several reports claimed that Samson is unhappy with some of the franchise's decisions, which also included releasing Jos Buttler during the IPL 2025 mega auction, and the batter demanded to be traded/released before next season.

As a result, RR offered Samson to almost every IPL franchise, but a deal has reportedly been struck with CSK. With the Kerala batter going to the Yellow Army, RR have reportedly traded Curran and Jadeja, the two premium all-rounders of the CSK side.
