Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has joined the rest of his IPL teammates for the upcoming IPL 2025 season after undergoing finger surgery. Up until recently, the blistering wicketkeeper-batter was in rehab at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

While the 30-year-old has linked up with the squad, it remains to be seen if the cricketer is fit enough to keep wickets for Rajasthan Royals in the tournament. Fortunately for the Royals, they already have another wicketkeeping option in the form of Dhruv Jurel.

Back in February, Sanju Samson was hit on his finger by a fierce delivery from England fast bowler Jofra Archer. The incident occurred during India’s fifth T20I match against the visiting Englishmen at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In Samson’s place, Dhruv Jurel kept wickets for Team India during the English run-chase.

Nonetheless, under the leadership of Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals franchise is set to face the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening match of the IPL 2025 season on March 23. The match will be hosted by the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Samson was one of only six cricketers retained by the Rajasthan Royals management prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction last year, alongside the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer and Sandeep Sharma.

The franchise made several fresh recruitments at the IPL auction in the form of Fazalhaq Farooqi, Maheesh Theekshana and 13-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
