The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise nabbed young Madhya Pradesh cricketer Aniket Verma back during the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. An uncapped Indian player, Verma even grabbed headlines at an intra-squad match for the SRH ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
The 23-year-old whacked 46 runs from just 16 balls in the innings and helped his side mount a huge total in the warm-up game. Here, we take a detailed look into the life and rise of Aniket Verma into the IPL ranks.
Who is Aniket Verma?
Born in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh on February 5, 2002; Aniket Verma rose to fame after smashing a century against Karnataka’s Under-23 team in the Men’s Under-23 One Day Inter-State tournament organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He also listed a majestic century in the All-India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Tamil Nadu.
Playing for Bhopal Leopards in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League (MPPL), the youngster top-scored with 244 runs in just five matches at a splendid average of 61 and a strike rate of 205.4.
Verma’s flamboyant striking abilities, much reminiscent to that of SRH batters during the IPL 2024 season, seems to have attracted the attention of the ‘Orange Army’ as the management acquired the Madhya Pradesh star for his base price at the mega auction.
A few days after the auction, Aniket Verma made his domestic cricket debut for Madhya Pradesh through a T20 match against Hyderabad at Rajkot during the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Apart from his blistering ball-striking, Verma can also send down a few overs of medium pace if required.
Nonetheless, the 23-year-old is all geared up for IPL 2025 alongside some of the biggest heavyweights of T20 cricket, including Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen and captain Pat Cummins.
The SRH franchise is set to play its opening match of IPL 2025 on March 23 against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
