In a major development, experienced batter Sanju Samson has received the fitness clearance certificate, and he is all set to be back as Rajasthan Royals captain in full capacity in the IPL 2025. Notably, Samson played purely as a batter in the first two matches, with Riyan Parag leading the side.
Samson Gets Fully Fit; Set To Return As RR Skipper
Swashbuckling Indian batter Sanju Samson hurt his finger after he got hit by a rising delivery from ace English speedster Jofra Archer during the recently held India vs England T20I series. Although he underwent finger surgery, he couldn't complete his rehabilitation before the stipulated time.
As a result, Samson had to play purely as a batter in RR's first three IPL 2025 games, with Riyan Parag replacing him as the captain. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel donned the wicketkeeping gloves in Samson's absence.
However, he rejoined BCCI's Centre of Excellence in pursuit of the fitness clearance certificate, which he eventually received after showing improved signs. So, Samson will lead the Royals in their fourth IPL 2025 affair against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 5.
Samson And RR's Performance In IPL 2025
Ace Kerala batter Sanju Samson had a fabulous start to this IPL season, slamming a belligerent fifty in RR's tournament opener against SRH. However, he was absolutely not at his best in the subsequent matches, managing only 33 runs against CSK and KKR combined.
Meanwhile, the Royals made a remarkable comeback, defeating CSK after two consecutive defeats. Currently, they are placed ninth in the ten-team IPL 2025 points table.
