Shubman Gill, the captain of the Indian Test team, is all set to lead North Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025. Vipul Kashyap, the Sports Correspondent of ANI, has revealed the news on his official X handle.

Duleep Trophy Captaincy Puts Gill's Asia Cup 2025 Selection In Serious Doubt

Vipul Kashyap has also added in the same post that Harshit Rana, Yash Dhull and Ayush Badoni will also be part of the North Zone squad. The revelation, if true, means that Gill might not feature in India's T20I squad for the Asia Cup 2025 as the Duleep Trophy will start from August 28, just 11 days before the first game of the continental tournament.

Shubman Gill has not been part of the T20I setup for the last year or so, and it seems that selectors want him to put all his energy into the longest format. He was brilliant with the bat in the recently held series against England and Duleep Trophy will provide him another opportunity to fine-tune his skills as a batter and as a leader.

Harshit Rana, on the other hand, was part of the last T20I series that India played, and there are chances that he might only play the opening game ofr North Zone, if selected in the Asia Cup squad.

The inclusion of Yash Dhull and Ayush Badoni from the Delhi squad is a reward for their consistent performance in domestic cricket. However, these are just reports, and BCCI is yet to release the official squad of North Zone.

International Stars Set To Assemble In Duleep Trophy

However, if Shubman Gill goes onto lead North Zone, he would be another high-profile cricketer who will feature in the tournament. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, and Mohammed Shami are other big names named in their respective zone squads, and the BCCI seems to be keen to get its Test cricketers to play domestic tournaments whenever they are free.

BCCI has so far released the squads of East Zone, South Zone and West Zone. South Zone and West Zone will directly play the semifinal of the competition. North Zone, on the other hand, will take on East Zone while Central Zone will be up against North East Zone in the first round of Duleep Trophy.
