Pakistan cricket has not been in the pink of health in recent times, and have been losing games in all three formats. There are very few players who have stood up in difficult times for Pakistan in the last year or so, and one of them is Saim Ayub. He was all set to represent Pakistan in Champions Trophy 2025, but got an ankle injury in South Africa and that ruled him out.
Peshawar Zalmi Still Awaiting Clarity On Saim Ayub's Fitness
Recently, Pakistan cricket posted a video of the young opener, practicing his fitness drills and working hard in rehab and he was expected to get fit for PSL. However, according to a report from Qadir Khawaja, a sports journalist of the SamaaTV, the youngster has completed his rehabilitiation in UK, and has arrived in Lahore.
The report further states that he will undergo fitness at the NCA soon which will determine his participation in the Pakistan Super League. Saim Ayub is part of Peshawar Zalmi, a team which also includes Babar Azam, and if he is fit, he is likely to open. Peshawar Zalmi recently signed Mitchell Owen, and he is looked as an opening option for the side, if Saim Ayub fails to make it.
In the last season of PSL, Saim Ayub scored 345 runs at an average if 31.36 and a strike-rate of just over 157. Thus, he is a key player for Zalmi, and they would be hoping that he gets fit, before the PSL starts on April 11. The reports of his improving fitness is also great news for Pakistan, and he is likely to play all three formats for his country after the PSL.
