In a significant development, Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi signed Mitchell Owen as a supplementary draft pick ahead of the upcoming season of the tournament. The news was confirmed by the franchise through its official handle on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Zalmi Add Owen To Their Squad Amid Saim's Injury

It's worth mentioning that explosive left-hander Saim Ayub opens the batting with skipper Babar Azam for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL. However, the batter recently sustained an ankle injury which ruled him out of the South Africa series as well as the Champions Trophy.

His participation in the PSL is still uncertain, as he is rehabilitating under the supervision of Pakistan trainer, Hanif Malik.

In such a scenario, Mitchell Owen's signing could be due to Saim's potential unavailability for the tournament. The Australian star is an opener, and he enjoyed stellar success in this year's Big Bash League season.

Mitchell Owen's Performances In BBL 2024-25

Hailed for his scintillating stroke-play, Mitchell Owen grabbed a million eyeballs through a string of extraordinary batting performances in the BBL 2024-25. He emerged as the most successful batter in the tournament, scoring 452 runs at an average of 45.20 and an unbelievable strike rate of 203.60.

He struck two blistering hundreds, including one in the final, powering Hobart Hurricanes to a memorable triumphant campaign. So, his addition certainly boosts the Zalmi's batting unit, as he can capitalise on the flat batting-friendly pitches in Pakistan.
