On Saturday, June 14, the trophy renaming ceremony for the India-England series was scheduled to take place at Lord’s. However, the event was postponed in light of the recent tragedy in Ahmedabad, where over 270 people lost their lives in a plane crash. South Africa and Australia players also mourned the lives lost by wearing a black armband during Day 2 of the WTC final, observing a minute’s silence.

There is no update yet on a rescheduled event, but a Cricbuzz report suggests that the ceremony might be called off entirely, as the upcoming series begins in just five days on June 20. Invitations for the event had already been sent to James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar.

Sachin Tendulkar Intervenes To Keep Pataudi's Legacy Alive

The proposed move to rename the Pataudi Trophy as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has sparked controversy, with fans expressing disappointment over the discontinuation of the honour to Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s legacy.

In the latest developments, Cricbuzz reported that Sachin Tendulkar intervened by speaking to both BCCI and ECB. The Master Blaster’s appeal has been heard, and following his intervention, ICC President Jay Shah also urged the ECB not to make any changes to the Pataudi legacy.

ECB Plans to Name Medallion Ceremony After Nawab Pataudi

Earlier reports indicated that the ECB planned to use Nawab Pataudi’s name for the series while renaming the trophy after James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar. However, the latest updates suggest that the series trophy will indeed be named after the two modern-day greats, while the ECB is now considering naming the medallion ceremony after Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.

“Yes, there is a confirmed plan to retain the Pataudi link in the England-India series. It is likely that the authorities will name a medallion in the name of the late MAK Pataudi, which will, in all likelihood, be given to the winning captain,” an ECB spokesperson told Cricbuzz.

An official confirmation regarding the same is expected in a couple of days, while India continues to train in London, where the team engaged in a intra-squad match.
