South Africa's recent victory in the second and final Test against the West Indies has significantly improved their standing in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table. 

By securing a 40-run win at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on August 17, the Proteas advanced from seventh to fifth place in the standings and moved ahead of Pakistan.

In the match, the South African team successfully defended a target of 263 runs, which showcased their strong performance in the series. This win not only enhanced their position in the WTC points table but also underlined their growing competitiveness in the ongoing championship cycle.

In the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle, South Africa has won two out of their six Tests, with a points percentage of 38.89%. This recent victory against West Indies has bolstered their position, and they are currently placed in fifth place in the standings.

On the other hand, West Indies is struggling at the bottom of the table, and are currently in ninth place. Their points percentage fell from 20.83% to 18.52% following their loss to South Africa. 

India is at the top of the points table, followed by Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. Currently, after the West Indies and South Africa test series Pakistan have moved down to sixth place with a points percentage of 36.66%, just ahead of England, Bangladesh, and the West Indies. 

However, it is important to mention that, Pakistan has a chance to improve their position with strong performances in their upcoming home series against Bangladesh. 

The two-match Test series is set to begin on August 21 in Rawalpindi, with the second Test scheduled for August 30 in Karachi. 

The top two teams in the WTC standings will qualify for the final, which will be held at Lord’s in London in 2025.
