The Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings on Sunday evening to clinch their maiden win of the IPL 2025 season, and while there was every reason to rejoice, the IPL governing body eventually decided to hand their captain, Riyan Parag a hefty fine for breaching the code of conduct.
Parag reprimanded by IPL
He was fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining slow-over rate during match 11 of the IPL against the Super Kings. Since this was his first major offence under Article 2.22 of IPL Code Of Conduct, he got away with a fine of 12 lakhs only. However, if he continues to lead RR in Sanju Samson's absence and commits the same offence, then the skipper will receive a one-game ban.
As per the IPL Code of Conduct, a team needs to complete their quota of 20-overs inside a designated time, which Parag and RR failed to do so. Hence, he was reprimanded by the IPL governing body.
Parag's Rajasthan side won a nail-biting contest against the Super Kings as they won the match by 6 runs. Chasing 183, the Super Kings lost the plot at the top and failed to chase down as Parag registered his first win as RR captain.
Hardik Pandya was the first offender of IPL 2025 season
Prior to Parag, it was MI captain, Hardik Pandya who was fined for a slow-over rate offence and was also fined INR 12 lakh. Interestingly, Hardik had three such offences last season and was banned from MI's IPL 2025 opener Vs CSK.
