In a tragic turn of events, a simple cricket discussion between an elderly Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fan and two Mumbai Indians (MI) supporters escalated into a fatal assault in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

The altercation unfolded when the elderly CSK enthusiast innocently inquired about MI's chances post Rohit Sharma's dismissal during an IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 27.

According to reports, the seemingly harmless query triggered a heated exchange, escalating into a fatal assault with wooden sticks by the MI supporters.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, the elderly fan succumbed to the severity of his injuries, casting a shadow of sorrow over the cricketing community.

The perpetrators, identified as Balwant Mahadev Jhanjge and Sagar Sadashiv Jhanjge, both residents of Hanmantwadi, were promptly apprehended by the Karveer police.

The victim, Bandopant Bapso Tibile, aged 63, was a fellow resident of Hanmantwadi, whose passion for cricket ultimately led to his untimely demise.

The incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of fostering sportsmanship and mutual respect among fans, irrespective of team affiliations. Cricket, revered as a unifying force, must not be tainted by such reprehensible acts.2
