One of the darkest phases in Indian cricket post the 1999-2000 match-fixing saga was the off-the-field skirmish between Virat Kohli and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Kohli, who wanted to remain India's Test and ODI captain having stepped down from T20I leadership post ICC T20 WC 2021, was apparently forced to step down from the 50-over formats, which in turn saw the Delhi batter leave his duties from red-ball cricket as well in January 2022.

The then BCCI president Sourav Ganguly received backlash from fans upon handling the whole situation, which also caused bad blood between the two legends.

Now, Ganguly, who is away from the BCCI or CAB administration, reacting to a video aired on Dadagiri Unlimited Season 10, which projected the 'Prince of Bengal' as key role in Kohli's removal, as quoted by Crictracker has revealed that he had no part in the 35-year-old's sacking and only suggested the former skipper about having separate captains for Test and ODIs.

Here's what Ganguly said

"I didn't remove Virat from captaincy. I have told this a lot of times. He was not interested to lead in T20Is. So, after he made that decision, I told him, if you're not interested to lead in T20Is, it's better if you step down from entire white-ball cricket. Let there be a white-ball captain and a red-ball captain,"

The former India captain remained BCCI President from 23 October 2019 to 18 October 2022.
