In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has updated the men's player rankings. Veteran Indian batter Rohit Sharma has dethroned Babar Azam, claiming the second position in the ODI batters' list.

Rohit Moves Up, Babar Azam Demoted After WI Series Failure

Pakistan's premier batter Babar Azam had a forgettable time with the bat in the recently concluded ODI series against the West Indies. The batter struck a patient 47-run knock in the inaugural clash before falling prey to Jayden Seales' sensational seam bowling in two consecutive matches. Overall, he finished the series with 56 runs, with his horrendous outing resulting in his demotion in the ODI rankings for batters.

Meanwhile, the former Pakistan captain's downfall has led to the promotion of Rohit Sharma, who now claims the second position with 756 rating points. On the other hand, India's newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill has consolidated the first position with 784 rating points to his name.

Shaheen Goes One Spot Down, Seales Moves 24 Places Up

Meanwhile, Shaheen Afridi, despite scalping a four-wicket haul in the first ODI, has moved one place down to number 13 in the bowlers' rankings. Jayden Seales and Gudakesh Motie have been the biggest movers from the West Indies, progressing five and 24 spots, respectively, to 12th and 33rd positions.

Tim David Enters Top 10, Brevis Takes A Giant Leap

Talking about the T20I rankings, swashbuckling Australian batter Tim David has moved six places up to number ten, riding on his exploits in the South Africa series. His South African counterpart Dewald Brevis has made progress of 80 places, occupying the 21st position following his blistering ton in the second T20I.

Meanwhile, Tilak Varma has narrowed the gap with the top-ranked Abhishek Sharma, claiming the second position. Travis Head has moved two spots down to number four following his twin failures against the Proteas on home soil.
