According to emerging reports, talismanic Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has expressed his desire to play the knockout fixtures of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Rohit is currently playing in India's ODI series against South Africa; however, he wants to keep himself match-ready by representing Mumbai in the domestic tournament, the Times of India reported.

As per TOI, Rohit Sharma, 38, has conveyed his interest to feature in the knockout fixtures of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Mumbai cricket team has registered four successive wins and is on the verge of qualifying for the Super League of the tournament. 

As they gear up for the next round, Mumbai have received a massive boost, with Rohit confirming his availability for the competition. 

"Rohit has expressed his desire to play for Mumbai in the knockouts of SMAT," an MCA source was quoted as saying by TOI. 

Rohit Sharma had a magnificent start to the ODI series against South Africa at home, scoring a flamboyant half-century in the first match in Ranchi. Although he departed cheaply in the subsequent affair in Raipur, the former Indian captain would be desperate to bounce back with an impactful knock in the decider at Vizag. 

Rohit's domestic participation likely ahead of NZ ODIs

It's worth mentioning that Rohit Sharma has retired from Tests and T20Is while remaining an active cricketer in the One-Day Internationals. Although he is 38, the legendary cricketer has the 2027 World Cup in his sights, focusing on form and fitness with rigorous grind. 

Given that he plays only one format, the domestic white-ball season, comprising the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, holds significant importance for Rohit, who will be aiming to stay match-ready and fine-tune his game further ahead of the crucial home series against New Zealand next year.
